WOMEN MOOD SWINGS DECODED
Anybody can have mood swings; but women definitely take the prize when it comes to abrupt changes in moods, sometimes for no apparent reason. Mood swings are a pain in the wrong spot in many relationships. The poor husbands/boyfriends cannot figure out what irks their women.
The meek ones tread with fear, afraid to upset her, apologising even when she’s wrong. The hard-headed ones just won’t take it; bringing to an end otherwise promising relationships or even marriages. But just what are these mood swings? Can they be avoided?
Let’s explore some causes:
- Hormones
This must sound like one of those overused clichés, but it actually plays a major role. Women experience drastic hormonal changes throughout their lives. From adolescence, menstrual periods, pregnancy and menopause, the hormones run wild causing mood swings. She will be happy one minute and ranting the next. She will be laughing now and the next moment the tears will come. Hormones cannot be avoided entirely; the best you can do is learn to cope.
- Fatigue
Fatigue is not only physical but also emotional. A tired woman is just a step away from a foul mood. Physical fatigue will result from work, looking after children, household chores, shopping and so on. Emotional fatigue comes from dealing with issues of career, marriage, family, finances, relationships and so on. Fatigue leads to frustrations, and that will come off as mood swings.
- Medical Condition
Sometimes there’s more to the mood swings than meets the eye. The victim could be suffering from a mental condition such as depression or bipolar disorder. Depression should be suspected if the victim is in low moods for extended periods. It is characterized by unexplained sadness, hopelessness, inactivity and negative thoughts. Bipolar disorder, on the other hand, makes the victim oscillate between very high and very low moods. As with every other medical condition, it’s advisable to consult a doctor for medication.
- Drugs
Alcohol, cigarettes and hard drugs cause a temporary high; and a reverse when they wear off. If you’re dealing with a drug victim, you can anticipate these fluctuations depending on the level and frequency of intake.
If you’re a victim of erratic mood swings, keep in mind that you’re negatively affecting those around you. You should put some effort towards controlling yourself. Here are steps that you can take:
- Take a diet that consists mainly of proteins and vitamins and less of simple carbs. Carbs cause a temporary spike in sugar levels and this goes hand in hand with the moods.
- Avoid or least minimize stress by exercising every day. You do not have to go to the gym; it can be walking, swimming, jogging and so on.
- Therapy can help you enhance your response to stimuli so that you can manage to stay calm despite what is happening around you.
- Identify what uplifts your spirit. It can be music, a nap, reading or any other hobby.
Do not let your relationships get affected by your mood swings. Get them in check today and be a happier you.
