Have you contemplated joining a gym? Have you wondered if it’s worth your money? Perhaps you can just exercise in the house, or walk/run outdoors. While this is true to some extent, the gym provides some unique benefits that you’ll not access elsewhere.
There are also those who are lucky enough to work in organizations that offer complementary gym membership or even a physical gym. Yet these chances are often underutilized. What a terrible waste? Sample these reasons why a gym membership is a great investment:
Get and Remain Fit
You don’t have to wait till you’re unfit or sick to enroll in the gym. You often hear overweight people say that it’s now ‘time to hit the gym.’ But why wait till you’re carrying all those extra kilos? Why allow yourself to raise your risk of lifestyle diseases such as diabetes type 2, obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease and so on? Remember some of these conditions like diabetes have no cure.
You can only manage them with lifestyle changes and/or medication. Enhance your chances of remaining healthy by making active exercise part of your routine from the onset. A gym membership will nudge you to keep exercising; you don’t want the money to go to waste.
Access to Experts and Equipment
Gone are the days when gym instructors were just buffed bodies. The current crop of instructors are well trained and can offer extensive advice on the nature of exercise best suited for your body and goals. For instance, if your goal is to lose weight, your routine may be different from one seeking to build muscles.
In addition to the custom-made exercise regime, you’ll have access to a wide range of equipment such as weights, resistance bands, fit balls, treadmill, elliptical, rowing machine, stationary bike and so on. No matter what shape you’re in, there’s something for you. Besides the gym itself, there could be additional facilities such as the sauna, swimming pool, steam room, hot tub and so on. Where else would you access all these under the same roof?
Exercise any Day
When exercising outdoors, the weather is a big deal. Your exercise routine is bound to be interrupted every so often. The gym shelters you from the external elements and gives you the freedom to exercise any time. Talking of outdoors, how many of us live in neighborhoods that are conducive for exercise?
The minority. The bulk of urban dwellers live in crowded areas live in crowded areas with hardly any free space for exercising. The condition of those places is an issue as well. Many of our houses are squeezed as well. Here the gym provides a 24/7 conducive environment.
Motivation
How many times have you purposed to exercise regularly then fallen by the wayside? A gym challenges you by pitting you up against the others. While we do not go to the gym to compete, you definitely don’t want to be the one lagging behind while the others hit the steps; and goals.
You will push yourself even when you don’t feel like it. The energy in the gym is simply contagious. You’ll be motivated by the progress of others. You’ll also gain friends, and probably from exercise groups. At the end of the day, you’ll be more health conscious and will reap the benefits for a lifetime.
