4 MISTAKES THAT AGE YOUR SKIN
What does your face say about your age? Every woman wants a young looking face that portrays her as younger than she actually is, or at least age appropriate. What do you do to keep your skin looking youthful? I bet you adhere to the usual skin-care routine: cleanse, scrub, tone, moisturize. Are you still noticing fine lines on your face?
Here are some practices that could be aging your skin prematurely:
- Skipping Sunscreen
Most of us think that sunscreen is only required when you’re going to be spending hours outdoors in the scorching sun. Far from it. Sunscreen is important even when indoors. Remember UV/UVA/UVB rays penetrate glass windows. Have a mild sunscreen for indoor use. The outdoor sunscreen should be at least SPF 30 to protect your skin against all sorts of rays. Other than the tint, the effects of sun exposure may not be visible right away, but with time the lines and dark spots will appear. - Too many Products
You don’t have to try every other product in the market. Find out what works for you and stick to it. There are hundreds of products in the market; from cleansers, toners, scrubs, moisturizers, foundation, concealers, anti-wrinkle and lightening products. Each with a different formula; different chemicals. Which one do you use? Which do you leave out? Start by identifying your skin type so that you can select the appropriate products. Avoid ditching products too fast when they seem not to be working. Give every product at least 6 weeks to settle in and show some results. Changing them too frequently will expose your face to too many chemicals and cause undue aging. - Sleeping with Make-up
At the end of a long working day, you hardly have enough energy left for you face right? You slump right into bed only to repeat your usual facial routine the following day. Are you surprised when your skin does not appear as radiant as you’d expect? Make-up looks good on you, but remember it clogs your natural pores. If you only wash your face in the morning, you then apply a fresh layer of make-up for the day ahead, essentially clogging your pores for almost 24 hours a day. Your skin needs to breathe. Remove your make-up at night so that the skin can have that much needed break as you sleep. - Insufficient Sleep
Lack of sleep manifests in several ways; and your skin is one of them. You may have noticed that whenever you don’t sleep enough, you wake up with sagging skin and dark circles around the eyes. If you make this a habit, the status of your skin will be affected permanently. Here is one more reason why you should switch off your computer in good time and get some decent sleep.
When the signs of aging strike, there’s the tendency to hide them under layers of foundation and concealers. But at the end of the day you’ll have no choice; when you stand in front of the mirror, you’ll have to deal with the real status of your face. Do not let your face age you; avoid these mistakes and enjoy a youthful face.
